Kagoshima and the Meiji Restoration

Occurred in 1868 when the Tokugawa Shogunate family was overthrown due to a political revolution, and political power was returned to the Emperor Meiji. Japan reestablished politics, economics and society. The revolution was led by the main force of young samurai leaders such as Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi from Satsuma Domain (present Kagoshima prefecture) and other domains’ youth. They were motivated to overcome growing domestic problems and the threat of foreign encroachment. Through this revolution, modernization and westernization were achieved in Japan. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the dawn of the modernization of Japan was accomplished by the youth of Kagoshima. In 2018 which will be 150 years after the Meiji Restoration, we would like to held Kagoshima Global KIZUNA Assembly and hope to use this opportunity for all participants to band together and recognize the pride of our home Kagoshima again.
